Nutrition and Weight Loss

as Easy as an Acronym

Remember the old phrase, “build a better mousetrap, and the world will be beating down your door’? If that proverbial mousetrap came in the form of a diet regimen specifically for women around and over the age of 50 years old was created, it would be a no-brainer decision for me to jump on board.

Well, allow me to introduce you to PLATE. Made for women in their prime, it balances food and nutritional levels to help keep us healthy, and, best of all, there’s no calorie tracking. Here’s the scoop on the ONLY diet plan designed for women over 50 – PLATE, as well as how it works, what it costs, and answers to your questions.

Disclosure: This post on the weight management system, PLATE, is for informational purposes only. You know your body best, so if you read the information below and decide it’s for you and that you want to consult your physician, I’m on board.

What Is PLATE?

Weight loss app; groceries for weight loss

I explained it a little bit above, but just to reiterate, PLATE is a weight management program that takes the guesswork out of your food and daily nutritional intake. Created with the help of Dr. Kathryn Waldrup, she has 35 years of treating and working with women in all stages of their lives. So she’s well aware of the hormonal torment we go through as we age and how it puts our bodies out of weight, especially when it comes to keeping excess weight off.

There’s no way I could mention PLATE and not talk about the cool acronym it stands for:

  • Portions – The correct amount of portion size with a nutritionally-balanced menu
  • Lifestyle – You’re not going to stick to it if it’s difficult or doesn’t work with your daily life, so it’s designed to allow the flexibility to eat at restaurants, enjoy family meals, and even splurge on wine and cocktails
  • Accountability – I work better when I have to speak for myself – PLATE does just that by giving reminders like when to eat and stop or when to exercise – think of it as the little angel on your shoulder whispering in your ear. Also, you’re encouraged to log in to your account daily to check your progress with its daily tracker tab.
  • Timing – For the system to work beneficially, knowing when and what to eat is very important.
  • Exercise – Yeah, exercise is in there, too. You know it’s good for us as well as I do. We’re not talking about a Richard Simmons type of aerobic workout where you’ll need to pull your spandex out of storage (Dear Lord, that’s a vision, isn’t it?), but it’s encouraged that you walk daily and do strength training at least a couple of times a week.

Just a bit of body science for you, but if menopause wasn’t tortuous enough, once it’s all said and done, we’re prone to have our metabolism plummet anywhere from 10% to 20% with each passing decade. Yeah, so that essentially means that even if we keep to the same amount of calories we took in before menopause, the lessening of our metabolisms will cause us to pack on the pounds.

As we age, our bodies require more calcium, protein, and fewer calories due to the hormonal changes I discussed earlier. And something I didn’t know until I began researching PLATE, women are more likely to become lactose intolerant, so it offers dairy alternatives. That’s pretty cool to know that we can still get our calcium in a non-vitamin form if we choose.

How Does PLATE Work Exactly?

Sure, there are plenty of questions; I have some, too. But essentially, using the acronym above, you’ll be following an eating plan while reducing your window of eating as well. So, if you’re the kind of gal that likes to snack all day up until bedtime, you will need to adjust your habit. For me, I eat up until dinner and then call it a day, apart from water and ice.

For those of you gorgeous ladies that are vegetarian or vegan, no worries: PLATE provides both meal examples and recipes to help you stick to your plan. If you want to read some real-life stories of how it has changed folks for the better, there’s an honest PLATE testimonial page to check out.

Also, if you need help losing weight (and who doesn’t?), PLATE offers private coaching with the weight loss app. If you’ve struggled to lose weight, now is the time to take the journey with a health expert that can help you reach your goals.

What If I’m on Medication – Can I Still Use PLATE?

You and your PCP know what’s best for your body, so before you make any major diet change, always consult your doctor or ask your dietician before you dive in.

How Much Does PLATE Cost?

Weight loss success; successful diet

As with the normal structure for a plan, the more you pay in advance, the less it will cost per month:

  • $39 per month
  • $89 for three months
  • $129 for six months

If you do decide it’s not right for you and want to cancel, it’s a hassle-free system. All you have to do is log into your account, go to account settings, and click on cancel. Easy peasy.

And should you ever have any questions, comments, or concerns, all you have to do is contact [email protected] and expect a speedy response.
